Minor imperfections from chips, stains and the natural effects of time can give you an unappealing smile. If you would like to smooth and brighten the teeth in your smile, you should talk to your dentist about being fitted for dental veneers.

Dental veneers are basically thin porcelain shells, custom-made to fit over the front of each tooth you wish to improve in your smile. The porcelain material can be color matched to be indistinguishable from the enamel of your natural teeth.

The process requires two separate appointments. At the first appointment the dentist will inspect your teeth and take a few X-rays. This makes sure that the enamel of each tooth is strong enough to safely anchor the veneers. If a tooth has been compromised by previous dental work, or lacks the sufficient enamel, your dentist might recommend having that tooth fitted for a crown.

The dentist then makes an impression of the teeth in your smile as well as your bite pattern. This is sent to a dental lab that creates your custom dental veneers.

At the second appointment the dentist removes a small amount of enamel from the front of each tooth to create sufficient texture and cement the veneers in place. With proper care and cleaning your new veneers can last for many years to come.
