The enamel layer of your teeth is made up of densely packed microscopic mineral crystals that are very strong and durable. Unfortunately, there are still times where something like a fall or a blow to the face can fracture the enamel layer and potentially even damage the internal structures of the tooth. This can be a very serious cause for concern. If one of your teeth is cracked, you should call Dr. Haefner at 843-884-1215 to address the problem quickly.

If the fracture comes with a persistent or sharp pain, it most likely means that the damage extends into the dentin layer or possibly the root. This might require Dr. Haefner to perform a root canal and replace the enamel of the tooth with a crown.

If you have blood or debris in your mouth from the accident, you can rinse it away with lukewarm salt water.

Even if the fracture is limited to just the enamel layer, you should still have Dr. Haefner, address the problem before tooth decay can set in. Sometimes they might be able to repair it with a small filling.

If you have a tooth with fractured enamel, you should call us as soon as possible at 843-884-1215 to assess the situation and schedule an appointment.
